Neutral Density ND

A neutral density (ND) filter reduces the amount of light reaching the camera sensor or film. ND filters are used to achieve combinations of shutter speed, aperture and film/sensor sensitivity that would otherwise be out of range in available light conditions. A good quality ND filter affects each colour equally and so is neutral in its affect on the colour balance of the image. A useful overview of the use of ND filters can be found on http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/neutral-density-filters.htm
